Surely at least once you´ve tried to open a program that included 3D characteristics but you couldn´t. On these occasions it´s normal to think that the program doesn´t work because your PC needs an API (in other words, an application that installs the libraries needed so that the large majority of graphics cards can support 3D acceleration processes). This is what OpenGL 1.1 does, as it is one of the best-known APIs, and works with graphics cards like 3Dfx Voodoo, and some models from Riva, NVidia, Kyra, ATI, Intel, etc.
